“An Introduction To Stand Up”
This workshop is aimed at beginners or people who are very new to Stand-Up (maybe less than a year in) and would also suit anyone who’s interested in the process or wants to use the the session to enhance their skills in the work place or build confidence. The emphasis is on getting you started with your own routine, and covers the basics of stand-up, including microphone techniques and developing your stage persona. It is very pro-active and encourages the writing of your own matrerial. The session is held in a top professional working stand-up environment and there will also be a post-workshop material follow-up by email and free entry to the Midlands Stand-Up Competition show on the following evening.
Please email or phone for more details (see below).
Workshops are run by national circuit comedian Anthony King (www.akstandup.com) who has worked on the top level of the U.K. circuit for 20 years. Anthony has run workshops for ten years and is one of the few actual working comedians that run workshops.
“Doing the workshop is the best thing I’ve ever done. I wanted to try the course to become more confident, but little did I know that Anthony would help me unlock the dark and disturbing material within my brain for profit and local fame. In all seriousness, the most fun I’ve ever had on a Tuesday night and the most positive decision I’ve ever made for my own mental wellbeing, ever. Sign up, sign up now.”
Jim Smallman (Leicester Workshop, Spring 2005)

Workshop Feedback:
“The workshop with Anthony was fantastic! I’m really looking forward to the others. He made it great fun and very productive but it was also really structured. The kids loved it and emailed me when they got home to say how much they enjoyed it.”
Korrin Smith – Education Officer, Royal and Derngate Theatres, Northampton
“How many 8 week courses change your life? I went on this course, to try and get rid of my nerves for standing up and giving reports in front of people in my new job! My experience with Anthony’s workshop in Lincoln has conquered this, and also made me seriously want to take up stand-up comedy for real!”
Jonathan Dilley Lincoln
“I’d thought about doing stand-up for years, but always bottled it. The workshop and Anthony’s constructive feedback gave me the confidence to just go out there and do it. Now the workshop has finished, Monday night’s seem a little boring, now I’m not sat in room, with six very funny people, laughing my socks off. Top stuff”.
Stuart Wilde, Lincoln
“…excellent workshop leader, and a very funny (though darkly troubling) man…”
Jamie Smart
“After attending the workshops, I’m convinced that Anthony’s experience and his subtle style of assistance and encouragement would help absolutely anyone to produce, develop and perform 5 minutes of original material. He’s a nice chap as well.”
Gary Mawby
“Doing Anthony’s course gave me the opportunity to learn how to perform stand-up, something I’d wanted to try but something I could not imagine myself doing. The course helped me gain enough confidence to express my ideas and get regular gigs.”
Mark Charlton (Leicester Workshops)
“Anthony’s workshop lets you give it ago without the
risk of making a fool of yourself infront of hundreds
of strangers (that comes later!!)”
Richard Holmes (Leicester Workshops)
